GAO List of 1,138 Benefits, Rights, and Privileges of Marital Status

I frequently cite an audit done by the Government Accountability Office (GAO, also known as the General Accounting Office) which listed 1, 138 discrete benefits, rights, and privileges that flow to individuals as a result of being married to one-another under federal law (for example: the protection against being compelled to testify against one-another in court, the right to file a joint tax return, etc.). The entire document may be view at the GAO's website. Rather than include that link in every letter in which I cite the study, I have linked to it here, and will include a link to this post in the sidebar of the blog for general reference.
